The goal of the MISD music program at the elementary level is musical literacy. Students are engaged in a variety of activities where they listen to music of the highest quality and sing, move, and perform a rich mixture of folk, seasonal, and patriotic music. Each music classroom contains a variety of instruments, as well as a 2-octave set of Choir-chimes. Many of the teachers use the techniques of Zoltan Kodaly, Carl Orff and Edwin Gordon which further enable the students to successfully perform independently and in groups. All choirs perform several times throughout the school year.

Each elementary school in the district participates in the Mansfield Children's Chorale (MCC), a select group of approximately 150 voices with each elementary campus represented in the membership.
The mission of the MCC is to provide developmentally appropriate choral experiences to identified musically exceptional students in grade 4. The group rehearses several times throughout the year and performs an end of year performance in a local venue of distinction.
