Mansfield ISD will hold the stadium naming ceremony to honor Mr. Vernon Newsom, the district's former superintendent, on November 6, 2009 at the district's athletics complex.

The MISD community is also invited to stay and watch the 7:30 PM varsity football game between
Mansfield Timberview High School and Mansfield Legacy High School. (Get ticket information and prices here.) An on-field presentation prior to the game will also take place to commemorate the stadium naming.
Vernon Newsom served as the superintendent of the Mansfield ISD from 1996 to June of 2009.
Mr. Newsom, who retired from the District at the end of last year, died July 22 from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident while vacationing in South Dakota with his wife.
At the May 26, 2009 Regular School Board meeting, trustees voted to rename the Mansfield ISD Stadium as “Vernon Newsom Stadium” by a 7-0 vote. |
