2009 TEA Accountability Ratings Released

[Monday, August 3, 2009]

Texas Education AgencyOn Friday, July 31, 2009, the Texas Education Agency released the accountability ratings for 2009. Mansfield ISD remains an Academically Acceptable district as campuses show gains as well as opportunities to improve.

“Overall, we are pleased that our performance continues to improve, but we are not satisfied with where we currently are,” said Associate Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability, Dr. Jim Vaszauskas. “We want to get better as a district.”

“Having all of our elementary schools rated Exemplary or Recognized is a great accomplishment. And we are certainly pleased that Timberview High has reached the Recognized level,” says Vaszauskas. “We will continue to analyze the data to determine the target areas to improve across the district and at individual campuses.”

Significant TAKS Observations

  • TAKS performance is at the recognized or exemplary level at all grades in all subjects except grades 9 and 10 mathematics and grade 10 science.
  • Three-year performance trends remain high or show an increase in the percent of students meeting state standards for all grades and subjects except for grades 5, 6, & 8 where slight decreases of 1-3 percent were noted in math or science. Although 3-year trends at grades 9 and 10 are positive, district performance in math and science do not meet district goals.
  • District action plans aimed at helping students learn math and science are in place and new programs and strategies are being examined.
  • At least 30% percent of students in grades 3-6 met the commended standard for performance for all subjects tested; grades 7, 8, and 11 in Reading/ELA; and in all grades tested in social studies and writing.
  • A positive trend in the percent of students who met the commended performance standard was noted for all grades and subjects except in grades 6 and 9 reading and in grade 10 science.

The district has 13 Exemplary campuses, 12 Recognized campuses, 10 Academically Acceptable campuses. Mansfield ISD remains an Academically Acceptable district.
