Mansfield ISD is sending a letter home today to the parents/guardians of James Coble Middle School regarding an alleged incident that was reported on September 26, 2008.
The Arlington Police Department is actively conducting an investigation and has cleared the following information for release:
- A student reported they were sexually assaulted on the Coble Middle School campus during the school day, Friday, September 26.
- The suspect is not an employee of MISD or a student in the district.
- The suspect is an adult male who was visiting the campus.
- The suspect is in the custody of the Arlington Police Department.
James Coble Middle School is one of five middle schools in the Mansfield Independent School District. It is located at 1200 Ballweg Road, Arlington, Texas 76002.
MISD boundaries encompass the city of Mansfield, sections of Arlington, Grand Prairie, Burleson, and other areas which add up to 94.5 square miles of Tarrant and Johnson Counties.

What security measures are in place at MISD middle schools?
Since Fall 2007, all Mansfield ISD campuses have the RaptorWare system called V-Soft, a school sign-in system to help increase security. The V-Soft system scans a visitor’s driver’s license, matches the information against registered sex offender databases, and then prints out a photo identification badge. The MISD also has its own district police department. Officers are available for middle schools on an as needed basis.
Are any procedures changing as a result of this alleged incident?
We will review district and campus procedures to determine if any additional security measures need to be taken so that we can provide our students, parents, and staff reasonable assurance that something like this doesn't happen again.
Are security cameras in place at MISD middle schools?
Currently, there are no security cameras in the middle schools.
Will counselors be available for students?
Counselors will be made available for students who may have concerns or fears about this information.
Why did the district/campus wait to release this information to the school community?
Due to laws protecting privacy rights and to not impede the progress of the investigation for the Arlington Police Department, the district has been limited in the information that could be disclosed.
