The MISD recently announced plans to discontinue providing Driver Education within the district.
In a letter distributed to the students currently enrolled in the program, the District explained the situation. The letter reads in part:
We regret to inform you that due to the current financial crisis in the automobile industry, GMAC as a result of financing requirements made the decision to discontinue furnishing cars for the Driver Education program. The District cannot absorb this additional cost for cars as part of the Drivers Education budget. At this time we will no longer be offering Driver Education to the students of Mansfield ISD. We encourage all of our students who still need to complete their driving time to work with their campus Driver Education Coordinator and schedule their driving times as soon as possible.
At this time the last day to drive will be Thursday, March 12, 2009.
Students who have not started driving and cannot complete the required time in a car will receive a pro-rata reimbursement for the driving time not completed.

If a student does not complete the driving portion of Driver Education they can be reimbursed $140 of the $265 they paid for the class - Reimbursement Form 
If funding for Driver Education cars becomes financially viable in the future, we will consider re-instituting our Driver Education program. |
