Margie Ford of Willie Brown Elementary School was named the January 2009 recipient of the MISD Heartbeat Award. District Superintendent Vernon Newsom, along with a few other front-office personnel, surprised Margie with a presentation that was held inside the school's cafeteria where she happened to be cleaning at the time.
“Every time you see her, she's busy with something,” said Brown principal, Marilyn Varner. “The school looks better than it has in a long, long time. She treats the kids like she's a teacher; she has high regard for those kids. They are her first priority.”
Margie Ford has been with the district for six years and is also a Mansfield High School class of 1986 graduate. This is her first year as a custodian at Willie Brown Elementary School.
 “The kids are really special to me,” says Margie. “They are just like the teachers and are just wonderful. It impresses me that the kids are so willing to help me. What motivates me is the appreciation. The staff, teachers, and kids appreciate my work and let me know.”

“Margie is a wonderful example of an employee who pours her heart into her job,” writes Tiffany Lee. “She has a genuine love for MISD, the teachers, and especially the students. I am new to MISD and Margie was a lifesaver to me as I prepared my room for the school year. She found the furniture I needed, helped me organize, and got me supplies necessary to begin teaching this year.”
“Her positive attittude is contagious,” writes Julie Whitis. “She genuinely cares about the staff and students of her school.”
