[January 29, 2009]
The MISD School Board took action on the Superintendent position, school names, and the 2009-2010 Calendar.
Superintendent Position
At the January 28, 2009 Regular Board Meeting, school trustees unanimously voted in favor of naming Dr. Bob Morrison, Deputy Superintendent, the lone finalist for the district's Superintendent position.
Prior to being Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Morrison (pictured right) was the MISD Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education and Director of Student Services. He also served as a high school principal, teacher and coach in Oklahoma.
Superintendent Vernon Newsom announced his retirement on July 9, 2008 to give the school board the opportunity to find a replacement in time for the 2009-2010 academic year. This naming comes after a three month process that included Superintendent profile development activities, an internal job posting, as well as interview.
Under state law, a school board must wait 21 days after giving public notice of its lone finalist before offering a contract.
