On Tuesday, February 24, the MISD Board of Trustees took action on a variety of items including approval of the Superintendent position, four new principals, a high school football coach, a new elementary school attendance zone, and the purchase of a district-wide online reference library.
Superintendent Position
The Board officially named current Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Bob Morrison, as the next Superintendent of Schools for MISD starting July 1, 2009. Dr. Morrison will succeed Mr. Vernon Newsom who will retire at the end of this academic year.
Prior to being Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Morrison (pictured right) was the MISD Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education and Director of Student Services. He also served as a high school principal, teacher and coach in Oklahoma.

Elementary Attendance Zone
The Board approved the Recommended Elementary Attendance Zone to accomodate for next year's opening of Annette Perry Elementary School.
Gale Virtual Reference Library
The Board approved the aquisition of the Gale Virtual Reference Library using Gas Revenue Funds. Every student who has access to a computer and the Internet will have 24-hour access to The Gale Virtual Reference Library, a full authoritative reference library. All students, teachers, administrators, school board members, and their families will have access to this product. |
